Getting a US visa is not an easy task, but it is not a black box either. The procedure is easy once you know the steps. Most of the heavy lifting is done online. You must fill out a DS-160 form. This is a nonimmigrant visa application. This is the basis of the entire request.
Don’t wait until the last minute to prepare the ingredients. We require digital images that meet certain criteria. Do your homework before you start writing on the DS-160. After filling out the form, you need to upload a picture of it. Skipping this step will cause problems.
Select the correct Visa category
Not all visas are created equal. You have to choose the right one. A B-2 visa is required for travel, tourism or visiting family. This is a standard tourist visa. Business trips are classified as B-1, but B-2 is the goal of most travelers planning a vacation.
After submitting the DS-160, you will be asked to provide important information such as where to return the passport. You must select a specific PTT (Turkish Post) branch. Think carefully about this. You don’t want your passport to stay in a different city than where you live.
Rewards and interview arrangements
The costs are fixed. The administration fee is $160. You can pay by credit card during the online process. Alternatively, you can pay in cash at any Akbank branch in Turkey. This is a non-refundable fee.
After paying the fee, you can book an interview. You can make a reservation by calling the American Embassy’s reservation service number +90 212 335 9000. Waiting times vary depending on the situation. In some cases, it could be the following week. Other times you may have to wait months. Check the status regularly.
Interview date
Get there on time. It’s late. If the time you have chosen is 10 o’clock, please arrive by 10 o’clock. Arriving an hour early creates a bottleneck for everyone. Go through the security and enter the interview area.
A staff member will ask you questions. They want to know why you’re going. They want to know how you pay for it. They want to know you’ll be back.
“If you can demonstrate strong ties to Turkey, your chances of getting approved increase significantly.”
This is where your background becomes important. If you have a stable job, you are in a good situation. If you previously had a US visa and followed the rules, you are likely to have a better outcome. A new graduate? They may come under even greater scrutiny. Student? You need to show that you are serious about your studies. Unemployment insurance applicant? You must have a good reason for your trip and proof of funding from your sponsor.
File list
Unlike the Schengen visa, the US State Department does not require you to submit a lot of documents in advance. We do not require hotel reservations or flight itineraries as required documents. However, supporting documents would be helpful. This shows that you are organized and serious.
