It is coming whether we like it or not.
The law was passed. Palm Beach International Airport has a new name. President Donald J. Trump International Airport. American Airlines isn’t going to argue about it, and now neither are their agents. They’ve been handed a script.
The Details
Starts July 9, 2026. That’s when the name change officially kicks off for the airline. But don’t look for the code to shift that day. It’s waiting until August 18.
The IATA code changes from PBI to DJT.
You will see it everywhere. In the app. On AA.com. At the check-in desks. And yes, in the backend systems like Sabre and AACoRN. Agents are told to start servicing PNRs and VCRS using that new code as soon as August hits.
It feels sterile, doesn’t it? Just swapping three letters. PBI to DJT.
But there’s a layer underneath the logistics. The memo includes a specific “Talking Point.”
“Why is American referring to this airport…”
That’s it. That’s the instruction. Defend the name. Not because of policy preference, but because the mandate is set. Agents will field the inevitable confusion or outrage. They will type out the response. The code changes. The plane takes off.
Who’s really flying into DJT? Probably a few people who really want to make a statement, and everyone else just wants their baggage claim to work.
