The award chart changed. Hard. Peak seasons got pricier, the ranges widened, and suddenly every stay costs more points. Negative vibes.
But wait. They promised something sweet would come with the bad news. Turns out the timeline is clear now.
Booking thirteen months out
Starting June 30, 26. The window opens earlier. Not for everyone though. Discoverists? Nothing. Get nada.
You need a Hyatt credit card or top-tier status. Explorist. Globalist. Lifetime Globalist. Or just swiping the right plastic. One extra month of visibility. Thirteen months instead of twelve.
“Eligibility for this benefit is tied to your tier status right when you click ‘book,’ and the clock ticks by the hotel’s local time.”
Is that valuable? Depends on where you sleep.
The cherry blossom trap
Most places have beds. Even far out. You won’t starve for availability if you want a mid-range hotel in October.
But you want Park Hyatt Kyoto. In spring. Or Park Hyatt Sydney. New Year’s Eve. These dates sell out in seconds. Twelve months isn’t enough for the bots. Thirteen might be.
So it’s a safety net. A slight cushion against the hoarders.
Most people hoarding these rooms likely have the status anyway. Or the card. They built points and rank together. Unless they’re playing Bilt transfer games, but let’s be honest. Most just grind it out at Hyatt.
Plus. Now those same coveted rooms cost 75k points a night. A 67% hike from the old max of 45k. Good luck getting that far out anyway.
And here is the kicker. Park Hyatt Tokyo? They call it a resort now.
Meaning no Globalist perks. No late checkout. Just pay up. And hope you didn’t miss the window by ten seconds.
Not a revolution
Don’t expect to throw parties about this. It’s not a game changer. It’s a small concession for people who plan six years in advance. Which is niche. Very niche.
Hyatt did promise simplified point sharing too. Coming later this year. No date set. We’ll see.
The points get harder to use. The benefits get rarer.
Is it worth chasing that extra month just to secure a bed in a hotel that doesn’t respect your status anymore?
